Joshua Bird, Chief Financial Officer

Joshua Bird is the Chief Financial Officer of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA), where he leads the financial strategy, planning and stewardship in support of the agency’s mission to provide quality affordable housing and foster community development.

With nearly two decades of experience in the affordable housing sector, Bird brings deep expertise in financial management, nonprofit governance and strategic consulting. Prior to joining MDHA, he was the CFO of a housing authority in Hartford, Connecticut, where he worked for eight years. He also served at housing authorities in New Haven, Connecticut and Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

In addition, Bird has held treasurer roles on several nonprofit boards, including a federally qualified health center (FQHC), its charitable foundation and multiple healthcare and housing development subsidiaries. He has also served on the finance committee of an insurance company focused on the affordable housing industry. Throughout his career, Bird has remained a dedicated advocate for sustainable community investment, good governance and financial transparency.

His commitment to community extends beyond his professional roles. Bird regularly volunteers as a consultant for nonprofits on budgeting and financial planning and participates in urban beautification and neighborhood improvement initiatives.

Bird earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Covenant College and an MBA from Strayer University.
