Residents living in an MDHA Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) community have a unique opportunity through the Choice‑Mobility program. This program gives eligible households the option to request a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) that can be used to move into the private rental market.
What is Choice-Mobility?
Choice‑Mobility is a resident right under the RAD program. After meeting eligibility requirements, you can request a Housing Choice Voucher that allows you to move out of your RAD community and rent a home or apartment that accepts Section 8 in the private market with HUD assistance.
Who is Eligible?
To qualify for a Housing Choice Voucher through Choice‑Mobility, residents must:
- Live in an MDHA RAD property for 24 consecutive months, and
- Be in good standing with their lease.
Once these requirements are met, you may submit a request.
How to Submit a Choice Mobility Voucher Request:
If your household qualifies:
- Ask your property manager for a Choice‑Mobility Request Form.
- Complete the form and return it to your property management office.
- MDHA will confirm your eligibility and standing.
If a voucher is available, you will receive one. If not, you’ll be placed on the waiting list with a Choice‑Mobility Preference, giving you the highest priority when vouchers become available.
