Is MDHA accepting applications for its affordable housing waiting lists?

MDHA is not currently accepting applications for our affordable housing waiting lists.

We don’t have an exact date to share at this time for the next open application period, but when we do, we will post that information ahead of time here on our website and on our social media pages (@NashvilleMDHA), so we encourage you to follow our pages and check regularly for updates.

I’m homeless and I need housing help.

We encourage those who are experiencing homelessness to contact the Metro Office of Homeless Services at 615-862-6444 to speak with a Coordinated Entry line specialist. Coordinated Entry is a process developed to ensure that all people experiencing a housing crisis have access to resources and are identified, assessed and referred and/or connected to housing assistance based on prioritization and resource availability. Can I check my position on an affordable housing waiting list?

If you have questions about a previous application you’ve submitted, please contact the property you applied for. You can find the leasing office phone numbers by searching the property name on this page.

How do I update the contact information associated with my application?

It is important to keep the contact information associated with your application up to date so that staff can contact you if your name is reached on the waiting list. Click here to be taken to a page where you can select the property you have applied for and update your contact information.

I’m not an MDHA resident or voucher program participant. What programs and resources are available to me?

MDHA’s Resident Services Department provides a variety of services with the help of our community partners. Here are some of the ways staff can help:

  • GED/HiSET classes
  • Employment barrier removal
  • Job opportunities
  • Training services
  • Disease education and prevention
  • Family counseling
  • Pregnancy and parenting resources
  • Baby supplies
  • One-on-one financial counseling
  • Financial Freedom Workshop
  • Homebuyers Club
  • THDA Homebuyer Certification

Anyone is also welcome to visit the MDHA VOICE Center at 78 Lafayette St. in South Nashville to get information about resources provided by the following partners:

  • TN Department of Labor and Workforce Development
  • Oasis Youth Drop-In Center
  • Meharry School of Global Health

What programs and resources are specifically available to me as an MDHA resident/voucher program participant?

MDHA’s Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is a voluntary program to promote employment and economic growth. MDHA residents or voucher program participants can join the FSS program to receive the specific services and resources needed to get a higher-paying job that will enable them to become self-sufficient and independent of government assistance. To help FSS participants reach their goals, MDHA staff connect them with services like homeownership counseling, education, job training, financial literacy courses and more. Participants also establish an escrow savings account that increases as their salary increases.

MDHA’s Community Health Workers manage programs and services that provide health and wellness resources to residents:

  • Prenatal services help connect pregnant mothers and caregivers of babies up to 10 months old with health care resources and doula services and provide baby essentials like clothes, diapers, bottles, toys, strollers, car seats and more.
  • CHWs also focus on the health and wellness of all residents by providing educational workshops and Lunch and Learn events on nutrition and health-related topics. They also plan wellness events like health resource fairs, vaccine and flu shot clinics and fitness classes.

MDHA residents are also encouraged to get involved in their community through the Resident Association at their property. Resident Associations are made up of MDHA residents who volunteer their time to organize events and resources for their neighbors. SUDEKUM APARTMENTS RESIDENTS ONLY: Sudekum Apartments residents can get the support they need to build a brighter future with the Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) program. The program offers personalized support to help Sudekum Apartments residents access educational and career resources and provides health and wellness guidance for individuals and families.

How can my organization partner with MDHA to provide resources and services to residents?

MDHA’s Resident Services Department is always looking for new ways to partner with community organizations that can help support our residents and ensure they have the tools they need to thrive. I have questions about or need assistance with my voucher.

Please contact your Section 8 Specialist for assistance. If you don’t know who your specialist is, or you don’t have their contact information, you can find a list of specialists by clicking here. Scroll to the Downloads section and select the option titled “Caseload Assignments.” The list is organized by voucher holders’ last name.

I’d like to port my voucher to Davidson County through MDHA.

I applied for the Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8/Project-Based Voucher program. Can I check my position on the waiting list?

Yes, you are able to check your position on the waiting list by logging into Rent Café with the username you used to submit your application.

Where can I find a list of apartments and landlords who accept Section 8/Housing Choice Vouchers?

You can find a list on the Current Tenants page under Rental Assistance.

How do I submit a maintenance work order request?

Call your leasing office during regular business hours and press 2. You can find your leasing office phone number under the property name on this page.

How do I submit an emergency after-hours maintenance work order request?

If it is outside of regular business hours (7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday) call your leasing office and press 1 to submit an emergency work order request. You can find your leasing office phone number under the property name on this page.

Can I transfer to a different MDHA property?

MDHA’s transfer list is reserved for those who are experiencing domestic violence or who need a reasonable accommodation. If you believe you qualify for a transfer, you can speak with your leasing office for more information. MDHA residents are also welcome to apply for the waiting lists at other properties as they become available.

How can I pay an overdue balance to MDHA?

You can pay by mail or in person with a cashier’s check or money order. The address for either is 701 S. Sixth St., Nashville, TN 37206, attn: Finance Department. If you have questions about your balance, please call 615-252-8440 and ask to speak with someone in the Finance Department about paying an overdue balance.

I’m part of a local community organization looking to apply for Community Development funds to support our programs. How can MDHA help?

MDHA’s Community Development Department manages several programs on behalf of Metro Nashville that award funding intended to benefit low- and moderate-income persons and areas. Click here to learn more about these programs and to see if we are accepting applications for funding.

I’m a homeowner, and my house needs repairs. Does MDHA have any programs to help?

MDHA has several home repair programs that help qualifying homeowners in Davidson County address accessibility issues, roof repairs, HVAC replacements, weatherization assistance and more. You can find more information and apply by clicking here.

MDHA’s Urban Development Department manages the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) programs to provide financial incentives for expanding the supply of affordable housing and positive redevelopment in Davidson County.
