Gernert Studio Apartments renovations unveiled | 2010-01-07
The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency celebrated recent renovations at the Gernert Studio Apartments, 110 Edgehill Ave., with a community event on Jan. 7, 2010.
The improvements to the high-rise community for the elderly, originally built in 1965, have incorporated elements that appeal
to today's seniors and baby-boomers. Amenities include:

· High-efficiency air conditioning and cooling systems with digital, programmable controls that increase resident comfort as well as energy savings. (The systems are expected to save 50 percent on heating costs and 30 percent on cooling costs.)
· Loft-like interiors with sliding doors, track lighting, improved natural lighting and new flooring.
· Energy-efficient refrigerators, dishwashers and other kitchen appliances with designer finishes.
· Enhanced security, fire and sprinkler systems.
The re-opening celebration included apartment tours, as well as the unveiling of a portrait of Grand Ole Opry legend and longtime Gernert resident DeFord Bailey, and a special musical performance by Bailey's grandson, Carlos DeFord Bailey.
