Residents and local officials came together Saturday, May 23, 2009, to celebrate the new J. Henry Hale Apartments and the transformation of the surrounding neighborhood. Mayor Karl Dean, Congressman Jim Cooper, State Senator Thelma Harper, State Representative Mary Pruitt, Councilwoman Erica Gilmore and MDHA Executive Director Phil Ryan were among those in attendance. The event was held at the J. Henry Hale Community Building, 1433 Jo Johnston Ave.

 

Work is complete on the apartment community, which has replaced 1950s barracks-style public housing with beautiful, energy-efficient, mixed-income housing. A brand-new community building includes a Neighborhood Networks computer facility that, through a partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools, provides computer training and open lab times for area adults and children.
